P A R I A H - People Against Racism In Aboriginal Homelands

Packed prison puts crims in containers (update April 08)

The Federal Intervention is manifestly oppressive to Aboriginal people

Berrimah prison is full - (I was in there earlier this year ('07) for an anti-racism protest in '02) - The NT State's preferred option is more black prisons

These prisons are used as POW camps in the ongoing war of invasion against Aboriginal people

Two PARIAH members were also imprisoned in Berrimah in 2001 for their part in a protest to support the people of East Timor in 1999

Australian militarism

"Australians were on hand even for the Boer war and the Boxer Rebellion. They were involved in more of the 20th century's major wars than either the British or the Americans"

The Federal intervention into Northern Territory Aboriginal homelands - is partly military

Mining (uranium) pastoral and military interests - all benefit from this increased control

The arms race in SE Asia and Australia's tacit approval of Indonesian 'terrorism' in West Papua - are indicative of our flawed militarist mindset

Federal political oppression of Aboriginal people

The Children are sacred

Dear Kerry O'Brien and 7.30 researchers,

I have just returned from the Northern Territory. I want John Howard to explain why house to house raids without warrants are being conducted by the Australian Federal Police
(AFP) in all of the Alice Springs town camps.

I also want to know, why at least two of the senior women who toured major cities speaking out against a uranium waste dump on their traditional lands have been raided by the AFP on warrants issued by a Federal Magistrate in Canberra - their furniture slashed with knives, belongings damaged, laptops and mobile phones seized, and phones tapped.

Continues ...

_____________________________________________________________________________

I was told by one of the women that the warrant gave 12 hours access to her home, and that she was told that the measures were justified because of the security crackdown for APEC ministers. One of those women is an elderly grandmother.

I have also been told by town camp residents that the AFP has set up surveillance on all households in the town camps, and have photographed without consent, every Aboriginal child in those town camps.

In the 1990s the AFP were successfully taken to court for exactly the same violations in Redfern.

Please report on this disgraceful conduct, and pursue a full explanation from the Howard Government.

regards,

Jennifer Martiniello

Not in my name
Dear Jennifer

Please also involve the tabloid TV current affairs programs - go the heartland of those who want still to trust this so-called government.

I am a white Australian.

Every step on any person this way shames me, is a step on me.

Please say sorry from me

ATTENTION
Apparently this was an earlier alert - and 'some' of its content has since been "publicly corrected" by the author

My reply to the person who kindly pointed this out

________________________

I received the email last night from a member of jaaracamp mob - with a "please circulate"

It had also been emailed to a number of activist e-lists (11)

I had no reason to doubt the immediacy of the email and I can only present such reports 'as is'

I'll put a corrective addendum to the article up, when I see Jennifer's public corrections which you may be able to send me

Fortunately (or unfortunately) my only addition to the post - "Federal political oppression of Aboriginal people" - remains entirely true

thanks again

"People in Town Camps in Alice Springs told me of 4am and dawn raids, use of capsicum spray, invasive media, Federal Police regularly entering the camps without warrants or permits, raiding homes, and taking photos of all adults and children in the camps."

PARIAH - anti-racism - NT Australia

Friends from the Belyuen Aboriginal Community at my Bush home (1999) on what is now Aboriginal land after a very long struggle

Our refusal to accept the land's status as belonging to the "Crown" and use of the courts in exposing local racism was never appreciated by the invasive interests protected and supported by the former Country Liberal Party.
The family that won the right to the Kenbi claim adopted me as family, due to the State's attempts to remove me from my (then) home of seven years

Many of the Belyuen people are related to the people at One Mile Dam Aboriginal Community where I spent 10 months living with the people and publicising their concerns in 2005 (Mick Lambe)
