Another shocking reminder of Howard's regime on YouTube
Another video - another heart rending reminder of the total lack of care and compassion towards the people locked up in Detention. This video came out of Curtin where new arrivals were placed in "separation detention" for up to 13 months. This meant no interview, no information, no papers radio or TV or news from the outside world and NO CONTACT/CALL TO FAMILY TO TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE ALIVE. Imagine months of isolation being fed and water and locked in huts like cattle after fleeing the terror and violence that the Taliban visited on Hazaras.
Look at the complete disregard of the guards even when it was thought that one man had died. Look at the way an unconscious man is roughly dragged across the ground by guards. See how the Hazaras are left to care for their own as they bled and cried out.

In these last days before the election we remember what was done to people who were later recognised as refugees and granted visa's to stay in Australia - but only after we had made them suffer. For this Howard and Ruddock must be held to account. And they will be. Pamela Curr Campaign Coordinator Asylum Seeker Resource Centre ASRC 12 Batman St West Melbourne 3003

Added: November 19, 2007 "Curtin Detention Camp was the most secret of all 'Australia's Hellholes'. New arrivals were placed in compounds isolated from everyone except those with whom they had arrived for up to 13 months. This was called 'separation detention'.
They had no access to information, newspapers, radio or TV. They could not contact family. They were not interviewed nor told for how long this situation would continue.
"The Afghani men and boys in this footage fled a massacre of Hazaras in Afghanistan. After a life- threatening journey they arrived in Curtin. Some became very ill. They were locked in empty rooms. There they became desperate.
"This video popped out of a camera and was picked up and thrown across a compound wall. Guards dug up gardens and tore up floor boards to find it. Months later a detainee emerged to freedom and brought this video with him.
"It has been publicly shown once before and provides rare insider footage of life in an 'Australian Hellhole."
