Packed prison puts crims in containers (update April 08)

The Federal Intervention is manifestly oppressive to Aboriginal people

Berrimah prison is full - (I was in there earlier this year ('07) for an anti-racism protest in '02) - The NT State's preferred option is more black prisons

These prisons are used as POW camps in the ongoing war of invasion against Aboriginal people

Two PARIAH members were also imprisoned in Berrimah in 2001 for their part in a protest to support the people of East Timor in 1999

Australian militarism

"Australians were on hand even for the Boer war and the Boxer Rebellion. They were involved in more of the 20th century's major wars than either the British or the Americans"

The Federal intervention into Northern Territory Aboriginal homelands - is partly military

Mining (uranium) pastoral and military interests - all benefit from this increased control

The arms race in SE Asia and Australia's tacit approval of Indonesian 'terrorism' in West Papua - are indicative of our flawed militarist mindset

Inquiry into the Stolen Generation Compensation Bill 2008

Received - 24 Mar 2008

I write to invite you or your organisation to make a submission to a Parliamentary inquiry.

On 12 March 2008, the Senate referred the Stolen Generation Compensation Bill 2008 to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee for inquiry and report by 16 June 2008.

The Bill, a Private Senator's bill introduced by Senator Andrew Bartlett, proposes a compensation model for ex gratia payments to be made to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons who are found to be eligible for such payments under the Bill.

The committee will examine the viability of the Bill's proposed compensation model, consider existing domestic and international compensation models, and review any relevant unimplemented recommendations of the 1997 Bringing Them Home report.

Please note that the committee's inquiry will be focussed on its terms of reference only. The committee is not able to consider, or respond to, any applications or claims for compensation.

The committee invites written submissions to its inquiry by 9 April 2008, and would be grateful for a contribution from you or your organisation. The committee is interested in hearing a wide range of views from interested parties. I would be grateful if you could also forward information about this inquiry to any individuals, groups or organisations who may wish to make a submission. If you intend to make a submission, please contact the secretariat as soon as possible.

The Bill, Explanatory Memorandum and Second Reading Speech are on the committee's website at www.aph.gov.au/senate_legal Hard copies are also available from the secretariat.

The committee encourages the lodgement of submissions in electronic form, but stresses that all submissions must include the author's fullname, phone number and postal address. All communications with the committee and its secretariat are protected by parliamentary privilegeand it is expected that submissions will be published unless clearly marked as confidential. Submissions must not be disclosed without the prior approval of the committee.

If you require further information, please contact the secretariat on
(02) 6277 3560.

Yours sincerely

Peter Hallahan
Committee Secretary

PARIAH - anti-racism - NT Australia

Friends from the Belyuen Aboriginal Community at my Bush home (1999) on what is now Aboriginal land after a very long struggle

Our refusal to accept the land's status as belonging to the "Crown" and use of the courts in exposing local racism was never appreciated by the invasive interests protected and supported by the former Country Liberal Party.
The family that won the right to the Kenbi claim adopted me as family, due to the State's attempts to remove me from my (then) home of seven years

Many of the Belyuen people are related to the people at One Mile Dam Aboriginal Community where I spent 10 months living with the people and publicising their concerns in 2005 (Mick Lambe)
