The Federal Intervention is manifestly oppressive
to Aboriginal people
Berrimah
prison is full - (I was in there earlier
this year ('07) for an anti-racism protest
in '02) - The NT State's preferred
option is more black prisons
These
prisons are used as POW
camps in the ongoing war of invasion
against Aboriginal people
Two
PARIAH members were also imprisoned in
Berrimah in 2001 for their part in a protest
to support the people of East Timor in
1999

Hi Mick, Thank you so very much.
We are in Port Augusta now we have been here four days now getting the most amazing stories not yet heard of in communities
Stories of success and of heart ache
Old people cooked up kangaroo tails in the ashes on the first night for us, what a priviledge and told us their views on Baxter and how the old women wanted to rip down the fences.
Getting a lot of our old peoples truth for a change hey.
Sorry everyone, this site is currently down. We got hacked by some unscrupulous hackers.
We can recover everything but we just need the time to sit down and restore everything...
Please check back again soon. In the meantime if you need to get in contact with the walkers please call 0402029968, 0400653166, or 0448104982.
In the meantime you can still goto our myspace pagehere, our bloghere, our photo galleryhere.
Thanks to everyone for the amazing support!
Racism concerns in Port Augusta
Some background
Concerns have emerged about racially discrimination in the Port Augusta Council area towards Aboriginal people gathering in public spaces.
This follows a decision by the local council and police to call in extra police, including the STAR Force Tactical Response unit, to crack down on "antisocial behaviour". The Port Augusta Council wants Aboriginal people whom the Council considers to be "terrorising" the public, moved on from certain public places in Port Augusta. Among Aboriginal people who are of concern to the Council are traditional summer season visitors from the Anungu Pitjanjatjara Lands.
Over 50 people were arrested in the week following the Council's decision. On February 9 a local Minister with the Uniting Church Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress was arrested for refusing to move on when he encountered police "acting roughly" towards Aboriginal people under a bridge where they gather.
It has also been reported that "racist vigilante attacks" against Aboriginal youth have occurred since the crackdown.
ANTaR SA has written to the SA Government expressing concern that the "heavy-handed" reaction will "aggravate" race relations and "would be contrary to the best interests of reconciliation".
Stayed at a little retreat on the gawler river called riverdell on the second night. Had some very interesting conversation with a wise old women called paula who finds her guidance through theosophy(studying different interpretations of the bible). The next morning we had the good fortune to meet a strong woman called rose turner and after a cup of tea we were invited over to her place for dinner. So after another day of walking we met rose’s big family from all around and got a bit of an idea about what’s happening with south oz indig affairs. Still issues but sounds like the south oz mob have got some good stuff happening too.
Tuesday we made it to Templars and stayed on on a property run by gary and sheryl. They’re cropping and have been working the land here for many years. Had plenty of funny stories to tell and were very kind to us. Their young daughter tara will walk with us in solidarity today too. Everyone is going well and we’re dropping off and picking up new people regularly.
Sue’s knees have been sore(she didnt do enough training!) but we’re getting there and she reckons the muscles are getting stronger! Plenty of lively conversation and we’re learning heaps from the people we’re meeting along the way. Weather is great at the moment. Next update soon!
The Northern Territory Government is ramming through legislation to override a court decision preventing a controversial mine expansion from going ahead
Our refusal to accept the land's status as belonging
to the "Crown" and use of the courts
in exposing local racism was never appreciated
by the invasive interests protected and supported
by the former Country Liberal Party. The
family that won the right to the Kenbi claim
adopted
me as family, due to the State's attempts
to remove me from my (then) home of seven years
Many of the Belyuen people are related to the
people at One
Mile Dam Aboriginal Community where I spent
10 months living with the people and publicising
their concerns in 2005 (Mick Lambe)
