The Federal Intervention is manifestly oppressive
to Aboriginal people
Berrimah
prison is full - (I was in there earlier
this year ('07) for an anti-racism protest
in '02) - The NT State's preferred
option is more black prisons
These
prisons are used as POW
camps in the ongoing war of invasion
against Aboriginal people
Two
PARIAH members were also imprisoned in
Berrimah in 2001 for their part in a protest
to support the people of East Timor in
1999

Dear Senators: Re Federal intervention into Aboriginal homelands

Dear Senators - Re: Federal intervention into Aboriginal homelands
FROM:
DATE: Wed, 15 Aug 2007
SUBJECT: The Federal intervention is unworkable and harmful
No idea why you would support this ugly political stunt
Aboriginal people have suffered enough from culturally inappropriate schemes
This one, was built upon a public campaign of 'shock jocks' raving incessantly about "anal rape" and accusing Aboriginal people en masse of child molestation
A 'concern' for Aboriginal children, that ignored the reality of the harm such a campaign was always going to cause them
The laws enacted follow the reasoning and racism of these 'shock jocks' - no decent person would build upon this racist hate campaign to intervene in Aboriginal communities - or legislate along lines of 'collective guilt' based on race
'Aboriginal leaders'
The usual 'Aboriginal leaders' have popped their heads up - looking for a piece of the Federal action - people who have presided over the disgusting neglect of Aboriginal people for some 30 years
These people have made their token protests - while maneuvering to ensure their cut of Federal funding
I work with Aboriginal people at a grassroots level - and the lack of faith in these self-appointed 'leaders' and government (whether State, Territory or Federal) is on a par - http://www.pariahnt.org/onemiledam/
There is never money for Aboriginal people at the coalface - but the wages and running costs of the various associations (air-conditioning, offices, wages, cars, ad nauseum...) charged with responsibility for their communities is always met
Most of the Federal funding will be spent on similar 'priorities'
Paying for the executioner's bullets
When I see Aboriginal communities bullied into 99 year leases - with the 'proceeds' being spent on "new police accommodation" and the "use of a sniffer dog drug unit" - I am reminded of the story (true or not) about families charged for the bullets used to kill their children in fascist regimes.
We are told that Aboriginal "self-determination" has failed
- would one of the Senators please point out - one Aboriginal community - that has operated autonomously - without cradle to grave interference from the State?
It is clear where the failure lies and clear this will be another one, unless the aim is to seize Aboriginal land - destroy Aboriginal culture and real self-determination - and empower those responsible for the generational neglect and exploitation of Aboriginal people
The Northern Territory Government is ramming through legislation to override a court decision preventing a controversial mine expansion from going ahead
Our refusal to accept the land's status as belonging
to the "Crown" and use of the courts
in exposing local racism was never appreciated
by the invasive interests protected and supported
by the former Country Liberal Party. The
family that won the right to the Kenbi claim
adopted
me as family, due to the State's attempts
to remove me from my (then) home of seven years
Many of the Belyuen people are related to the
people at One
Mile Dam Aboriginal Community where I spent
10 months living with the people and publicising
their concerns in 2005 (Mick Lambe)
