Another unnecessary death at One Mile Dam

Subject: Another unnecessary death at One Mile Dam community

Our friend Peter is dead

He hanged himself at OMD, 3 hours ago (2 am now) last person here we thought would.

One Mile Dam community - No alcohol programmes, no medical - educational, refuge facilities. A dumping ground for blacks. In the middle of Darwin!

Not a remote community.

We despise the white indifference that causes these deaths.

Our president dead at 50 -

Charro - Kumbutjil Association president

And we will fight it

No one has talked to us about the new housing we were promised BEFORE the election...

...to begin - "next year". Ylli Housing refuse to meet with us for publishing the truth about them on our web site. Too bad if our people suffer.

Thanks to those of you who have replied so far.

Peter is survived by five children.

An ex-Norforce recruit - a very nice man - big and strong but gentle and placid with it.

We have nothing to offer these people. Soweto (Suid Afrika) had more going for it in the apartheid era than we do here at One Mile Dam in Darwin, Australia.

We have heard nothing from the NT government or indeed our local member in regard to providing basic needs here - since the NT election. All parties agree the conditions here are "third world". That would seem a good starting point for improvement.

Lot of sorrow here today.
